Are We Trying To Kill Each Other?

“Every day he was teaching at the temple. But the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the leaders among the people were trying to kill him.” Do you understand what you just read? Does it resonate in your spirit as to who and what the first couple of sentences in this article relate to? You just read Luc 19 verse 47. It is making reference to the son of man, Jesus the Christ, and the established consecrated and sanctified holy men of His time. The consecrated ones were priests, teachers and leaders of the Most High! I read the verse over and over. What do both sentences have in common?

What is captivating about the verse is that the people being referred to were all in it together. They were all spiritually involved at the temple. All of them, in their own ways, were thinking that they were fulfilling the will of the Father. However we read the intent of the religious leaders at that time. Why were their hearts so intent in doing evil? Why the wrong motives? Also why would the Holy Father allow such statement to be written in the bible?

With my mind always questioning things and my spirit not wanting to be at rest, I wanted to know why? As I was meditating on the verse, thoughts were flowing in. Let me share with you what I learned while pondering on the words? The verse affirmed the way I see my relationship with God and others. How was my relationship with God affirmed? I was reminded that all of us human beings are on this planet earth for a purpose. As we tend to our regular daily routines at work, at home, and in our community, we are accomplishing what we were created for. Whether we like the way we are, whether we like what we are doing or not, whether we are content with were we are at this stage in our lives or not, all things are constantly and currently moving according to the will of God in our lives when we are His children.

How was my relationship with others affirmed? I started to think about how my behavior may affect someone, or how I can be affected by someone's else behavior. Let's remember that we are also a holy people and high priests of the most High God on earth (1 Peter 2:5, 9). Could we be planning and trying to kill each other without being aware of it? You are probably thinking, what is this about? I found out that we can try to kill each other in various ways. Did we ever think that when we say this unkind word, have that rude attitude, criticize, ignore a need, show jealousy, slander someone etc., we are chipping up slowly the spirit life in the one or ones who is/are seeing or hearing us. Are we aware that everything we do affects someone's else positively or negatively?

As we continue reading further verse 48 we see that the Father didn't allow anything bad to happen to Jesus yet. But why did God allow such remarks in the bible? We are told that the motives of our hearts are known to Him. I guess the Father wanted us to know that the religious leaders were jealous of Jesus, and this is why they wanted to kill Him so we can be aware of the motives behind our actions. We read in 2 Timothee 3:16-17 that all scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.

Now as it relates to us, let's not forget that the Father knows the end from the beginning. The little drama that we call “living life on earth” is history to Him. He knew every move we would be making before we knew that we would be the main players in the play. Even while knowing how the miserable little creatures we are will break His heart, He chose to love us before the foundation of the world. He chose the foolish things of the world to be His.

He designed and worked a wonderful and merciful plan to save us from all unrighteousness for His own name sake, and also in order for us to always be with Him where He is (Psalm 23:3). Let's run with perseverance the race set before us with our eyes fixed on Jesus. As we go through life, let us love one another sincerely, make every effort to be holy, and always remember that we are all in it together. After all, no matter what comes our way, all is well with our souls.

Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and obey it! (Luke 11:28)
